Covid-situation in China

Lockdown in Shanghai

There is a city lockdown in Shanghai amid COVID resurgence.

It was announced by our local authorities on Sunday night that a full lockdown will be imposed for a new round of citywide nucleic acid testing from 5AM on 28th of March till 3AM on 5th of April.

During the lockdown, all residential communities will be closed, people are required to stay at home, offices will be closed and for sure operation at ports and airports will be seriously impacted. In consequence shipments will be stuck or delayed.

ALPI China staffs are working at home currently.

China Port updates

Kindly note the latest status of the China Ports:

Summary:

- Even though all China ports are fully operational, different districts are lockdown at different times and very often on short notice.

- Strict rules in place from truckers on PCR testing.

- Trucking in general is a challenge with surging costs.

- As bookings are cancelled and rates are eroding, we are expecting a similar ketchup effect as in spring 2020 once restrictions are lifted.

- Our operation is fully dedicated to offer flexible solutions although they are working mainly from home.

We continuously monitor the situation with the priority to keep our employees safe and healthy.

Detailed latest status of the China Ports:

Tianjin:

The port is operating normal. The challenge is with the trucking, especially in Hebei Province where most of the city is under lockdown. The truck there can’t leave the province. Other nearby provinces are better.

Qingdao:

The trucking transportation are nearly suspended due to Covid lockdowns, and many had to postpone bookings.

Shanghai:

There is different timed lockdown in various districts and street levels. Eastern side of the city from 28th of March until April 1st and the western side April 1st to April 5th.

We suggest re-routing bookings via Ningbo.

Though all ports are fully operational there are delays getting to the ports. It is very likely that the ports are short-staffed due to the residential lockdowns and therefore backlogs/congestions are building up. It is very difficult to get trucks to pick up cargoes from the suburbs in Zhejiang/Jiangsu/Anhui province due to the strict testing measures. Some factories had to cancel bookings due to lockdown at their districts.

Many Shipping Lines have omitted sailings and airlines have cancelled flights.

Ningbo:

There has been an increase in the number of ships berthed in Ningbo due the lockdown in Shanghai. There is no disruption to the port operations in Ningbo at this moment, but with delivery delay.

Xiamen/Fujian:

The port operation is slow. Vessel delay of 3 to 7 days.

Yantian/Shekou:

Shenzhen Covid lockdown is getting better, the production facilities and public transport have been re-opened in several districts. All ports are open and operational. Yantian and Shekou still have some delays due to berth congestion. Yantian port delay 5 to 7 days, Shekou port container gate in date: ETB: -4 days.

Most of the outside depots stopped operations due to the lockdown disruptions. There is also severe trucking resource shortage during this period.
